DiXi Group is a «think tank» that conducts research and consultations in the energy sector — at the intersection of politics, public relations, security and investment.
TASK
Our regular Customer Analytical Center DiXi Group contacted us with the task of implementing an animation video that was supposed to tell in an interesting form about the successful experience of DiXi Group: how it was possible to influence the adoption of the EITI law.
Style: character animation, infographics, interviews.
Duration: Long (6 min) and short (3 min) videos.
Language versions: Ukrainian, English.
Speaker: Ukrainian and English.
Subtitles: Ukrainian, English.
REALIZATION
Pre-production
In 2013, Ukraine joined the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). This international standard requires countries to disclose information on natural resources development. In Ukraine, several public organizations began to implement this initiative. First of all, the International Renaissance Foundation and the Dixy Group Public Organization. Five years passed — and the Law on Ensuring Transparency in Extractive Industries, after several unsuccessful votes in the Parliament, was adopted.
In November, the President signed it.
It was a really hard way. How did they managed to adopt this law? What has been done, why does the company’s reports are important, and what needs to be done further, so that the EITI implementation process does not stop? All this had to be shown accessibly in a short video.
While discussing the first script, we decided that the plot should be based on real stories. Therefore, they decided to record interviews with direct participants in the initiative. In order not to violate the overall style, we had to think about how to integrate the video into the animation.
Shooting
In December 2019, we shot an interview with three people in the Divaki Production studio. We filmed on chroma key, so that later it is easy to mix video comments with animation.
Post-production
In January 2020, the entire team worked on editing and animation.
We selected the color scheme, developed the style of the video, characters and locations, as well as elements of graphics and infographics.
The most interesting were the experiments on integrating live comments into character animation. And we succeeded!
RESULT
The client received two language versions of the long and short videos.
We are grateful to DiXi Group for an interesting project that opened up new creative solutions for us. And we are glad that thanks to our videos, more people will learn about the initiative.
